EdgeUno delivers IP Transit, Bare Metal, and Cloud services through edge data centers in five U.S. cities. These data center services cover connectivity, compute, and edge security in one place.

Our hubs sit in Miami, New York, Dallas, Los Angeles, and Ashburn. These are some of the most critical internet hubs in the United States. Data centers play a central role in how fast and reliably your users can reach you, and location decides much of that.

Whether you’re expanding regionally, entering Latin America, or optimizing global delivery, EdgeUno gives you the data center infrastructure to scale securely and efficiently.

Need help planning your deployment? Talk to an EdgeUno specialist.

Nationwide Coverage, Unified Platform

Across all five U.S. locations, EdgeUno provides:

IP Transit with ultra-low latency and direct access to AS7195, the most connected Latin American IP network

Bare Metal servers on demand, built for performance and flexibility

Cloud services for modern, scalable workloads

Edge security, including DDoS mitigation and traffic monitoring

All four run on one unified platform. You get full control and visibility, no matter where your users are.

AI adoption is pushing data center electricity demand higher across the industry. The International Energy Agency projects that data centers will use around 945 terawatt-hours of electricity by 2030. That’s more than double their 2024 usage. That makes efficient data center operations a real factor when you choose a provider.

What Types of Data Centers Exist Today?

Data centers explained simply: they are the physical infrastructure that stores, processes, and moves data. There are several common data center types, and knowing them helps you pick the right data center options for enterprises and other tech companies going through digital transformation.

Traditional data centers. This is a company-run data center owned and operated entirely in-house, including networking equipment, data storage systems, and cooling systems.

Hyperscale data centers. Large data center facilities that can hold thousands to millions of servers. These are some of the largest data centers in the world, and tech companies like Amazon and Google operate them to run their own cloud data centers. The hyperscale data center market grew from $35.72 billion in 2022 to $41.69 billion in 2023, a CAGR of 16.7 percent.

Colocation data centers. A colocation data center hosts multiple organizations’ IT infrastructure under one roof. Colocation facilities let businesses rent rack space instead of building their own, which cuts capital expense and adds scalability. This is the model EdgeUno uses.

Edge data centers. Smaller, regional facilities placed close to end users to cut latency. The edge data center market was worth $9.36 billion in 2022 and is projected to reach $34.91 billion by 2030, a CAGR of 17.9 percent.

Modular data centers. Portable data centers, often built into shipping containers with their own cooling systems and power supplies. They can deploy quickly in remote locations.

Other data centers, like government or research facilities, exist too, but these four cover most of the commercial data center landscape. The key components across all of them are the same: power, cooling, networking equipment, and physical space.

How Are AI Data Centers Different?

Artificial intelligence and machine learning need more than a standard setup. There are two main types of AI data centers, split by function: training and inference.

AI training data centers ingest petabytes of data to build large models. They need vast GPU clusters, high-throughput storage systems, and low-latency networking like InfiniBand. This heavy data processing is one reason powering AI data centers takes so much more energy than a standard facility.

Power use per rack can run from 60 kW to over 140 kW, according to industry rack-density benchmarks. That is far more than a conventional data center needs. Because of this, training facilities often sit in remote areas with cheaper power.

AI inference data centers run trained models for live use, like chatbots or recommendation tools. These workloads care more about low latency than raw power, so the facilities sit closer to end users. Power use stays lower too, typically 10 kW to 30 kW per rack.

An AI-ready data center needs both strong power and cooling systems and fast networking. EdgeUno’s AI Connectivity solutions are built for the inference side of that equation. Latency-sensitive inference and AI workloads benefit most from infrastructure placed near the people using it.

Not sure which AI data center setup fits your workload? Talk to an EdgeUno specialist about training versus inference needs.

How Do Data Center Operators Measure Efficiency?

Data centers important to daily business operations need real oversight, which is why smart data center design matters so much. Operators track how well their facilities run using real metrics, not guesswork.

One common metric is power usage effectiveness, or PUE. It compares total facility power to the power that actually reaches computing equipment. A lower PUE means better energy efficiency.

Good data center management also depends on the network layer. Many operators now use software-defined networking, one of several data center components alongside servers, racks, and cooling systems, to manage traffic without manually reconfiguring hardware. This makes data center capacity easier to expand as demand grows.

The data center industry is also shifting toward managed services data centers, where the provider handles day-to-day operations, not just space and power. That shift lets enterprises skip the cost and time of data center construction altogether.

Newer data center technology, from remote monitoring to automated cooling, makes this shift possible. For many enterprises, data centers colocation like EdgeUno’s is simply the fastest way to access that technology without building it in-house.

A Closer Look at Our U.S. Hubs

Miami (MIA1): A gateway to Latin America with full-stack service availability. Good for companies expanding into LATAM or serving cross-continental traffic.

New York (JFK1): Located at 60 Hudson. Built for high-frequency, financial, and enterprise applications that need top-tier performance.

Dallas (DAL1): Centrally located for nationwide reach and redundancy. Well suited for edge deployments and latency optimization.

Los Angeles (LAX1): Direct peering to Asia-Pacific. Built for businesses reaching audiences across coasts and beyond.

Ashburn (IAD1): Sits in the world’s largest concentration of data centers, giving you strong interconnectivity.

Each hub is a carrier-neutral colocation data center, built to Tier III and Tier IV standards, the two most common data center tiers for commercial use. You are never locked into one upstream network. Every site includes access control systems and other physical security measures to protect enterprise data center customers and their sensitive data.

For companies weighing data center providers, data residency also matters. Data protection regulations across Latin America and the U.S. often require sensitive data to stay within specific borders. EdgeUno’s mix of U.S. hubs and 50+ Latin American facilities gives enterprises scalable data center solutions that keep data close to the rules that govern it.

Not sure which hub fits your traffic? Contact an EdgeUno specialist to map it out.

The EdgeUno Advantage

🌐 Globally connected, regionally optimized
🔒 Security-first design with integrated DDoS mitigation
🧠 Expert support in English, Spanish, and Portuguese
🔧 Scalable deployments with Cloud and Bare Metal flexibility

Data center architecture and data center space needs vary by workload. A company running enterprise resource planning software has different computing resource needs than one running an AI inference pipeline, and both can be hosted through EdgeUno’s colocation and cloud data centers.

EdgeUno’s Cloud Connect service links directly to major cloud service providers, including AWS, Google Cloud Platform, Microsoft Azure, and Oracle Cloud. That gives you private, low-latency data center communications between your colocated equipment and the public cloud, without routing traffic over the open internet.

As demand grows for AI and data-heavy applications, modern data center expansion is accelerating across the industry, and how much electricity data centers consume is rising with it. Good data management starts with picking infrastructure built to handle that growth.

Demand for this kind of infrastructure keeps growing. MarketsandMarkets projects the global edge data center market will grow from $50.86 billion in 2025 to $109.20 billion by 2030. AI, IoT, and real-time applications are the biggest drivers behind that growth.

Whether you’re launching a new product, evaluating an IP transit provider, or building AI-ready infrastructure, EdgeUno provides the speed, security, and resilience you need.

Ready to Scale with Confidence?

Your infrastructure deserves more than a data center. It needs a strategic partner. Contact EdgeUno and find out how our U.S. footprint can power your next move.

We live in an era where data has become a cornerstone of our everyday lives. Amid the rapid pace of digital transformation, the world is expected to produce 180 zettabytes of data by 2025. Such enormous quantities of information necessitate a robust network infrastructure capable of processing, storing, and distributing this data – and this is where Data Centers come into play.

In this article, we will delve into what Data Centers are, their different types, and the critical role they play in our everyday lives. We will also explore how data center providers, like EdgeUno, are leveraging the latest technologies to meet the demands of our ever-growing digital world.

Credits IStock

What are Data Centers?

Data Centers are specialized facilities designed to house and protect computer systems, data storage systems, and associated components such as telecommunications and network devices. They’re comprised of servers, storage devices, cables, and a vast array of networking equipment – all working in harmony to ensure the smooth transmission and processing of data.

These complex facilities are not only about hardware. They are meticulously managed environments that are carefully controlled to maintain optimal temperature, humidity, and security levels. Furthermore, efficient data centers have backup power supplies, redundant data communications connections, and various security systems to ensure business continuity and data protection.

Why are data centers important for businesses and consumers?

Data Centers play an increasingly critical role in the operational framework of both businesses and consumers. For businesses, they serve as the hub for their IT operations and equipment, where they store, process, and disseminate data.

They are essential to guarantee business continuity because they offer high availability, reliability, and security of data. Their resilience against power outages, failure of network services, and other disasters means businesses can keep their digital operations running smoothly all day long.

On the other hand, consumers might not realize how heavily they rely on data centers. Whenever they stream their favorite TV show, use a social media app, participate in online gaming, or even send an email, they’re interacting with a data center. The performance, speed, and reliability of most digital services we enjoy are contingent on the efficient operation of data centers.

4 Types of Data Centers

Credits IStock

With the evolution of technology and varying data needs, the concept of a ‘data center’ is no longer confined to a room filled with servers. Instead, the term now encapsulates a variety of architectures, each designed to meet specific business needs and address the challenges associated with data storage, processing, and distribution.

Different types of data centers have emerged over time, including:

Edge Data Centers

Hyperscale Data Centers

Colocation Data Centers

Modular Data Centers

Each type has its own characteristics, advantages, and disadvantages, which we’ll explore further.

The selection of a specific type of data center is often driven by several factors, such as:

Nature of the business

Volume and type of data being handled

Business applications being used

Regulatory requirements

Available resources

For instance, a multinational company offering a popular streaming service may rely on a hyperscale data center due to its massive data and computational requirements. At the same time, a local business may benefit from an edge data center to deliver data and services quickly to local users.

Understanding the different types of data centers is a vital step in determining the most appropriate data center infrastructures for a business or service. This diversity among data center types allows for an optimized, tailored approach to data management, ensuring that data can be handled effectively and efficiently across different scenarios.

Let’s explore these four types of data centers in more detail.

Edge Data Centers

Edge data centers are small, localized facilities that are strategically located closer to the users or data sources. They are designed to reduce latency in data delivery, providing faster response times and a better user experience, particularly for real-time and latency-critical applications.

The primary advantage of edge data centers is their proximity to end-users, which greatly reduces the distance that data must travel, thereby speeding up data processing. As a result, businesses can offer real-time services, such as IoT applications, video streaming, gaming, and virtual or augmented reality applications.

According to a report, the edge data center market size was valued at USD 9.36 billion in 2022 and in the period from 2023-2030, it’s expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 18.4%. This growth is attributed to the increasing adoption of IoT across industries and the need for lower latency.

Hyperscale Data Centers

As the name suggests, hyperscale data centers are real enterprise data centers. They are vast facilities, often operated by hyperscale customers, usually tech giants like Amazon, Microsoft, and Google. They can contain thousands to millions of servers and other IT resources, making them ideal for massive workloads that require high-speed connectivity and extensive processing power.

Hyperscale data centers are designed for horizontal scalability to accommodate increased demand. This scalability makes them highly flexible and efficient, as resources can be added or removed dynamically based on the workload.

The global market of hyperscale data centers is expected to grow at a CAGR of 16.7%, from $35.72 billion in year 2022 to $41.69 billion in year 2023. This demonstrates the rapidly growing demand for high-capacity data centers capable of supporting extensive computational workloads, such as big data analysis, cloud services, and machine learning algorithms.

Colocation Data Centers

In a colocation Data Center model, businesses rent space in a colocation facility owned by a third party to house their servers and other hardware. These on-premises data centers provide the building, cooling, power, bandwidth, and physical security while the customer provides and manages the servers and storage.

A colocation Data Center allows businesses to avoid the significant capital expenditures and operational complexities involved in building and maintaining their own data center facilities. They provide a high level of flexibility and scalability, allowing businesses to increase their production capacity as needed.

Modular Data Centers

Modular Data Centers, also known as containerized or portable data centers, are self-contained, portable data centers built into a shipping container. The purpose of modular data center design is to be flexible, scalable, and quickly deployable, which makes them ideal for remote locations, temporary deployments, or disaster recovery scenarios.

Modular Data Centers come in various sizes and capacities, depending on the specific needs of a business. They offer many of the same benefits as traditional data centers, including security, cooling systems, and uninterruptible power supplies, but in a compact and mobile format.

Benefits of EdgeUno’s Data Center Solutions

Edge Data Centers have garnered considerable interest in recent years due to the array of benefits they offer. They are poised to remain a key area of focus in the foreseeable future.

The transition of Data Centers to the edge yields four primary benefits:

They enhance security by restricting the amount of stored data, mitigating broad network vulnerabilities, and curtailing the transmission of sensitive data.

They offer lower latency, leading to significantly faster response times. By locating computation and storage closer to end users, the chances of encountering a transmission line with subpar data flow are reduced. For example, a<ins>n</ins> user in Colombia will receive data from a data center Colombia-based facility, which significantly reduces response time.

Edge data centers, by processing data locally, lessen the traffic routed to and from central servers. Consequently, more bandwidth becomes available across the user’s wider network, boosting the performance of the entire network.

Finally, this type of data center services decreases routing and data transmission costs by reducing the traffic directed to and from central servers, a crucial factor for a high-bandwidth application performance. Specifically, by bringing storage and computing closer to the point of use, edge data centers reduce the need for costly interconnection hubs and circuits that connect to regional or cloud data centers, whether it’s private clouds or public cloud providers.

Innovative Data Center Technologies

Credits IStock

Data Center technologies have continually evolved to meet the changing demands of the digital world. The introduction of new technologies is aimed at improving efficiency, capacity, reliability, security, and environmental sustainability.

Below, we’ll delve into some of the key technologies currently transforming the data center landscape.

Virtualization

Virtualization has become an essential technology for many modern data centers. It involves the creation of a virtual version of an operating system, a server, a storage device, or network resources. Virtualization allows for greater flexibility, scalability, and efficiency, as it enables multiple virtual machines, each running its own operating system and applications, to run on a single physical server.

Software-defined networking (SDN)

SDN is a technology that decouples the network control and forwarding functions, enabling the data center network to be programmatically controlled and making network configuration more straightforward and efficient. SDN allows data centers to scale and adapt quickly to changes in business requirements.

Hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI)

HCI integrates computing, storage, and networking into a single system. This approach simplifies data center management and improves scalability. With HCI, data centers can easily add more capacity, as physical infrastructure and other data center resources are managed centrally, reducing the time and effort required for system administration.

AI and machine learning

Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning technologies are increasingly being used in data centers for predictive analysis and automation. These technologies can predict potential system failures, optimize energy use, and automate routine tasks, leading to improved reliability, efficiency, and cost savings.

Green technologies

With growing concerns about the environmental impact of data centers, green technologies are becoming more prevalent. These include energy-efficient servers, advanced data center cooling techniques, renewable energy sources, and intelligent power management systems, reducing carbon data center footprint, increasing environmental controls, and lowering energy costs.

Summary

As our digital reliance grows, so does the need for robust and efficient data management. Data centers, whether they’re edge, hyperscale, colocation, or modular, play a pivotal role in supporting our digital world. Each type of data center offers unique advantages and characteristics to cater to different needs, facilitating a diverse range of services from real-time applications to massive computational workloads.

In this modern era, where the digital economy continues to expand and technology is ever-evolving, data centers stand as the backbone of our interconnected world. They must not only meet the current needs but also anticipate future demands.

Innovations in data center technology, such as virtualization, software-defined networking, hyperconverged infrastructure, AI and machine learning, and green technologies, are paving the way for more efficient, reliable, and sustainable data centers. However, it’s also important to be aware of data center best practices in order to be able to get the most out of them.

Understanding these different types of data centers and the technologies that power them is integral for businesses to make informed decisions about their data management. In an era where data is often considered as valuable as currency, the right data center can be a powerful asset, driving business growth and digital transformation.

With technology advancing at a breakneck speed, mankind enjoys an unprecedented level of growth and success across various industries. We find ourselves in the midst of extraordinary opportunities that allow us to explore new horizons. While no sector is spared, businesses across the globe are the ones that experience the greatest impact of this technological boom. Regardless of whether a business is small or big, they utilize some kind of technology to streamline their operations.

The value of the cloud market in Latin America is expected to grow rapidly by 6.6% per year by 2026, which indicates that cloud solution adoption in this part is massive, and it will change how businesses store, process, and organize their data.

However, with so many businesses moving their operation to the cloud and trying to compute data, network congestion has become a real problem. Luckily, this is where edge computing solutions become a valuable ally, both to businesses and individuals. In this article, we will explore the numerous benefits edge computing brings to the table and how you, as a business owner, can benefit from it.

What Exactly Is Edge Computing

The base definition of edge computing is a decentralized distributed computing paradigm that brings computation and data storage closer to the data source. However, you might still ask the question – what is edge computing? And rightfully so, as that definition might sound like IT buzzwords that came together to form a sentence for someone new to this field. To explain it properly, let’s take a look at a real-life implementation of edge computing.

Self-driving vehicles, for example, rely on sensors, cameras, and machine-learning algorithms to navigate roads and make real-time decisions. Edge computing plays a critical role in the fast processing of data from these sensors and cameras, which can generate massive amounts of information that need to be analyzed quickly, enabling them to either proceed with driving or stop when they are near an obstacle.

To sum it up, edge computing works when the computational work is done as close as possible to the data source. With the help of a machine learning program, that data is analyzed, and the device takes the appropriate action.

But what exactly does that mean for businesses? In short, data computing is an integral part of operating a business. For instance, it helps companies predict future outcomes and trends by analyzing historical data to gain actionable insights into customer behavior which would then deliver a better customer experience and detect fraudulent activity by analyzing all transaction activity.

You might be familiar with cloud computing and the benefit it puts forth for businesses. And you might wonder how edge computing differentiates from cloud computing.

Edge Vs. Cloud Computing

Both edge and cloud computing play a massive role in our society’s digital transformation, and without them, we wouldn’t have industries operating this efficiently and at this capacity. When it comes to this type of technology, the bar can never be truly set; they will continue to uncover many business opportunities and help companies scale their operations and perform them much more efficiently.

Undoubtedly, cloud and edge computing offer significant advantages for organizations looking to process and analyze data. However, while cloud computing provides scalability, flexibility, and cost-effectiveness, edge computing offers faster processing times, improved performance, and enhanced security.

How cloud computing works

In cloud computing, data is collected or generated from many devices, and then it’s sent to the cloud for safekeeping. When done in bulk, computing data this way is much cheaper and more efficient. However, there are certain instances where sending data off to the cloud is not viable. For example, when you don’t want to move data online due to privacy and security concerns or when the devices you use need to make split-second decisions.

The benefits of edge computing

By now, we have established that edge and cloud computing are not interchangeable terms used to describe the act of data storage processing and analysis. They both have their own unique features, and both are used by all sorts of businesses.

Each option appeals to different needs; for those that seek to bypass the latency that comes with communicating endpoint data from devices to centralized data centers, edge computing is the perfect solution. The act of sending data to the cloud can take up to 2 seconds, and that small signal latency is unacceptable in many industries. Latency refers to the time it takes for data to travel from its source to its destination, and it can significantly impact the performance of digital systems. In the case of a factory, critical systems may require accurate real-time data processing to effectively control machines and heavy equipment and adhere to safety protocols.

With edge solutions, proper control of machines will never be a problem. For example, imagine a factory machine running at high temperatures due to a malfunction. With edge computing, sensors attached to the machine can detect this issue and alert local processors. These processors can then analyze the data and take corrective action within seconds, preventing any further damage or danger.

How You Can Optimize Your Business With Edge Computing Solutions

Regardless of whether you depend on heavy machinery or not, edge computing can improve your business performance and streamline your workflow; let’s see how.

Local data processing with edge computing solutions

As we mentioned previously, with the edge solution, businesses can process all their data locally, at the edge of their network, instead of data collection and analysis occurring at a central place. This means that they can minimize the amount of data that needs to be transmitted to a central location for analysis, which can save on bandwidth costs and reduce security risks associated with transmitting sensitive data.

Puts data closer to the user

Data can be used in real-time as all data is closer to your devices, allowing for latency-free responses and lighting-fast accessibility. The other major benefit of storing data closer to the devices is an increase in security. Edge computing helps organizations keep sensitive data secure by keeping it local and reducing the number of points where data can be intercepted by a third party.

Reduce costs

Although data storage costs have dipped in the past few years, you are still paying top dollar to your service provider. Edge solutions can help you with cost control by simply removing the need for data to travel back and forth.

Pushing operations toward the edge can run a more effective and cost-efficient business. You won’t have to waste cloud spend by simply employing the full power of edge computing solutions.

Reliability and no interruptions

Edge computing offers businesses more stability as a failure of one edge device won’t result in a complete block of operations; that’s not the case with centralized servers. We discussed this in another article of ours. A Colombian bank connection was severed from the public cloud, which resulted in a downtime of 8 hours.

If for some reason, one edge device fails, other edge devices in the setup edge ecosystem will not be affected and will resume operating uninterrupted. This is one of the major reasons businesses opt to implement edge computing solutions.

Scalability

As with cloud computing, you have the ability to add edge devices and enhance your operations. Plus, edge devices cost less than adding more computing resources within a centralized data center, which makes the edge solution option perfect for businesses that want to scale efficiently without breaking the bank.

Finding The Right Provider

If you want to enjoy only the best, it’s only right to set up your edge ecosystem the right way. Here at EdgeUno, we collaborate closely with our clients to create customized edge computing solutions that are tailored to their specific needs.

Conclusion

As the technology landscape evolves and grows increasingly complex, it is essential for businesses to stay ahead of the curve, enabling them to gain faster insights, or rather, real-time insights, enabling them to enhance their entire business operation. Edge technology enables them to do just that. These topologies enable service users to access data with no latency, opening up a myriad of opportunities.

Edge infrastructure is the basis and foundation of platforms, applications, and media that generates a perception of immediacy in the devices we use in our daily lives, such as televisions, tablets, and phones; these platforms find this infrastructure the best ally to improve the perception of the end user, facing the distance where the content is produced and the goal of achieving its distribution in a shorter period of time (latency), it is to wonder what a short period of connectivity has to do with me as a user if I still struggle with the simple fact of staying connected.

Why is video streaming so slow?

This happens because of the distance the content must travel. Some providers are looking for content on the other side of the world, while other users are accessing content just around the corner. The user’s perception is that the service provider leaves them stranded when accessing content on a page and eventually, without an internet connection. On the other hand, a user located less than one meter away from the distributor accesses the same site without further complication.

From the point of view of the customer, today’s networks have multiple connection paths. Although through our devices we do not control the way we navigate, a big part of internet users believe that it is unidirectional, and only has a single possible way to access information, therefore, if I cannot access it immediately, I will have to wait until it is my turn.

What does Edge Data centers offer?

Since the Internet is a universe in which the source of information is distributed through different infrastructures and locations, the path they take can be the difference between watching a paused or uninterrupted video. This is where Edge infrastructures make a big difference. The main characteristic of this type of topologies is to allow service providers to access content in a more efficient and direct way.

The Edge Data Centers located in the sectors with the highest influx of information in each city allow all providers to be connected to access the content hosted in the Edge servers, avoiding unnecessary network sections, and making it possible to access the required service with relative ease. From a theoretical point of view, the Edge function is the solution to the end user’s quality perception problem. Now, the real challenge is to include this type of technology in new applications and telecommunications infrastructure developments.

What are the main challenges of Internet of Things – IoT in Latin America?

Because of the great barriers faced by the Latin American idiosyncrasy – that define a process that, although it was accelerated as a direct effect of the global pandemic generated by COVID-19, did not manage to consolidate enough to overcome what can put at risk any Edge infrastructure development.

The main challenges are:

Business technology culture.

Understanding of interconnection in Latin America

Integral development of a solution

The technological culture at the corporate level is a barrier that not only discourages investments in edge infrastructure but also makes markets behave in a static way, regarding the continuous progression of communication and technology, new markets and products seem to be slowed down or paused to be provided in Latin America and what maintains this corporate practice is that the user is already used to price over quality.

The tendency of the Latin American user is that when acquiring internet services, it is understood as an electric energy service, that is to say, that it consists of a fixed point without any variation and the quality is measured only by the continuity of service, but the perspective must change, users should be more self-critical with parameters such as assured contracted transfer rates regardless of the time of day, network coverage and flexible contracts oriented to quality and not quantity.

This could certainly be ensured by an Edge infrastructure, and an end-user could tell the difference between a service connected to an Edge node to a common node, based on speed and availability of content.

Additionally, a second factor must be taken into account in this cultural transformation, and that is the knowledge of the communications infrastructure, to the vast majority of customers it is completely transparent, the location of the infrastructure or place in the cloud, the service is the same which plays as a big mistake, there are inherent risks to it and therefore different levels of service, which again are marked by the price war rather than the real need of the customer.

What is the digital divide in Latin America?

The service provider must start evaluating what it can provide differentiating it from a simple internet connection. Whether it is distributed through the cloud or the content generated by the user; at this point, the panorama becomes even more challenging, since with a young and barely developing market such as the Latin American one, the need for a new Edge infrastructure of physical and virtual type, is far from being able to be boosted.

On the other hand, network interconnection plays a significant role in the development of Edge technologies, because in Latin American countries there is a high degree of complexity to deploy interstate fiber or high traffic density infrastructure due to the characteristics of each territory. Even this problem is continuously circumvented in population centers, since the geography in which most LATAM cities are located, plays against any deployment, and makes the deployment of telecommunications infrastructure barely viable.

Therefore, places that comply with good installation characteristics continue to be saturated with network components, putting at risk the resilience of the network; two examples could be used where this happens, the first is the deployment of antennas and the other is the location of Data Centers, which tend to have energy and space access facilities. But it impacts the expansion of connectivity capacity, which limits the population of the network around it, creating communication islands that will be continuously limited to the availability of connectivity.

How to reduce the digital gaps in the region?

As a result of these digital and infrastructure gaps arises the need for a comprehensive solution, since finding solutions from the perspective of a Datacenter that manages and supplies the environments, makes its shortcomings in the objectivity of connectivity decrease, as a result, the efforts to promote Edge infrastructures are insufficient. In addition, a vision focused on connecting networks without considering the content, the place where it should be hosted, and then the point where it needs to be distributed, completely limits the solution.

It is important that companies abandon their position that customers come with their problems and the provider delivers the solution, this unilateral path must be fought, since it has been fully identified that service providers and customers do not have full certainty of the real need for the solution, since the requirement in most cases is completely alien to the operational core of the customer, therefore the result is overestimated or underestimated, and there is no choice but to learn from the mistake.

What strategies can be proposed to contribute to digital transformation in Latin America?

For some companies, the effort in proposing this type of infrastructure deployment leads to having to propose new paradigms and methods for service delivery; since its inception has been the operational flag of EdgeUno, a full focus on quality, connectivity, user integration with content, and easy access within the technological environment.

As well as breaking traditional schemes where large infrastructures were considered the only solution, to integrate a decentralized and customized solution, with the added value of the total abolition of the commercial concept where a high speed is assured to any content, which is not entirely accurate and depends directly on the physical infrastructure and the negotiation of the network.

In addition, the service is focused on the customer’s needs and completely overshadows the widespread marketing exercise of hiring hundreds of megabytes of connectivity, which in turn is shared with many users giving the feeling that you will always need more, to elucidate that on the contrary you need is the same, but of better quality.

EdgeUno has created these dedicated network segments that guarantee the quality of service and fully meet the service expectations of our users. Based on our experience, the first approach to break the current trend for the edge market is an adaptation exercise that brings together, includes, and integrates network players, content owners, internet providers, and end users as an ecosystem and not as isolated players.

Data centers are high-availability spaces where you can place the equipment and servers that maintain an organization’s information and guarantee its operation

Data centers are high-availability spaces where you can place the equipment and servers that maintain an organization’s information and guarantee its operation.

On many occasions, companies have their own space where to locate servers and store valuable information for the operation. However, due to a lack of best practices, equipment life cycles shortened. Stand-alone server equipment is prone to malfunctions that can affect an organization’s routine and even generate significant losses for a business when not maintained properly.

In this publication, we will tell you why it is so important to have a data center to store your organization’s information and ensure that it is always available and secure.

What is a data center?

Before talking about best practices in a data center, it is crucial to understand what a data center is for and why it is the best option to store critical business information, such as applications, financial data, and more.

Learn about some of the most important features of a data center!

Continuity:
There are countless layers of protection in the management of a data center. Unlike locations with little preparation, data centers have different backup plans, to ensure that information is always available, considering risks and creating action plans.

Availability:
A data center service guarantees you high availability 24 hrs every day of the year. In addition to having different backup mechanisms such as alternate power sources and high redundancy, in a data center, there is always qualified personnel monitoring the status of the machines, so it does not matter if it is a holiday or if someone goes on vacation. In a data center, you can rest assured that there will always be someone monitoring the status of the machines and taking care of your information.

Security:
A data center is always thought to take care of the information available on the servers. And this includes different security aspects.

From fire or accident protection measures to legal records and local regulations; security is perhaps one of the essential features of a data center. In addition to having numerous security processes in place, Only authorized personnel are allowed access, so your information is entirely secure.

Accessibility:
Accessibility in a data center is the ability of the user to access the information from the network and to be able to monitor that their equipment is working correctly.

Who does maintain data centers?

The management of a data center is focused on monitoring that everything is structured and working correctly. However, this task is not as simple as it seems. The data center is taken care of by a team of experts in various fields such as hardware & software technicians, NOC staff, cleaning crews, network engineers, project managers, compliance officers, support staff, physical security & cybersecurity specialist, cloud architect, and more.

Data center staff focuses on maintenance and improvement. They must make sure that the equipment has everything it needs and is in the best condition. A data center staff is there to make sure that everything runs smoothly, even in emergencies.

Expert team
“Human interaction within a data center is very important and it is essential that the staff is qualified and constantly trained”, said Juan Alcazar, director of Global DC Operations at EdgeUno.

Seventy percent of data center errors are human errors. For this reason, having a highly qualified team is key to delivering excellent service in a data center.

Data center Best Practices

When hiring a data center your provider must guarantee the care and good practices to keep the equipment working properly.

Some of the care that should be taken into account are:

Energy Protection:
Energy is a fundamental factor since, without it, the machines do not work. In addition, there are different power conditions for specific equipment to work properly. That is why a Data Center has an infrastructure strategically designed to meet the power needs of the machines.

Server and machine manufacturers require specific terms and conditions to comply with the warranty. One of these conditions is the exact power terms to ensure that the equipment works properly.

Data centers must have electricity backups to never without power to servers, switches, and other expensive equipment. Since the equipment is sensitive and the warranties are stric, it’s essential to verify your data centers policies around backup power and maintain the required currents.

Environment:
Other aspects such as temperature, dust, contact with water, can damage servers or shorten the years of useful life. For this reason, upkeep of the environment such as dust isolation and proper security controls are essential to ensure proper operation.

Availability capacity and connectivity nearby:
Your organization’s information must be located strategically in central points. Look for a data center that is close to the end user’s location.

Connectivity is an essential aspect when we talk about data centers. When a data center is located close to the relevant operations, latency is much lower than a data center outside the country or continent.

When it comes to network architecture, closer is nearly always better. But it’s crucial to measure distance in network terms, rather than how you would “as the crow flies”. The miles matter less than the number of connection points, traffic congestion, and other latency killers.

A data center that is well placed close to the end-user delivers a high-speed connection more consistently. Especially for streaming, when we know that milliseconds make all the difference for the user.

Conclusion
If you have already decided to use a data center, you have made a great decision! In addition to protecting your business information, we guarantee the durability and excellent performance of your equipment, as well as excellent service.

At EdgeUno, we have a network of more than 36 Data centers throughout the Americas. If you want to learn more about our data center service, contact us. We will be happy to assist you.
